The British union-catalogue of early music printed before the year 1801, ed. Edith B. Schnapper (London: Butterworth Scientific Publications, 1957) lists a song by Baldassare Galuppi with this incipit from his opera buffa, Il Filosofo di campagna (1754). First staged in London in January 1761, with revivals in 1762, 1763, 1768, 1769, 1770, 1772 and 1773. No earlier concordances in Cyrus Lawrence Day and Eleanore Boswell Murrie, English song-books, 1651-1702: a bibliography (London: Bibliographical Society, 1940).
