Missing item. Black records this item as ‘Translated extracts out of ‘Moulin’ de novitate Papismi’ (Nouveaute du Papisme). A small 8vo. ms. Now removed, and made up with the other portions thereof and with like papers, which have been lately identified as written by Lord Lauderdaile, during his imprisonment in Windsor Castle. They are described among Baxter’s smaller mss elsewhere.

The fuller title of this work is Nouveauté du Papisme, opposée à l'antiquité du vray Christianisme, contre le livre de Mr le Cardinal Du Perron, intitulé Replique à la Response du ... Roy Jaques I (Sedan 1627). In Corr 462 Baxter writes to Peter du Moulin junior (1601–84), asking for a Latin or an English translation. The first English version appeared as The Novelty of Popery (1662) translated by P du Moulin junior for whom see also Corr 459, 461, 462, 482, 510, 545, 606, 616, 650, 785, 1213 and ODNB.
  • For Jacques Davy Duperron (1556-1618), the French cardinal who was partly responsible for the conversion of King Henry IV of France to Roman Catholicism, see ODCC. Duperron’s Replique a la response du Serenisissime Roy de Grand Bretagne (Paris 1620) – translated into English by Elizabeth Cary, Viscountess Falkland (Douai 1630) – formed part of a controversy with King James I of England which came to involve Pierre du Moulin, Isaac Casaubon (ODNB), Lancelot Andrewes, and David Blondel.
