Black and white photograph of a design for a book cover [by May Morris], on paper, leaning up against a white stand. The front cover has a fairly dense covering of decoration, of four birds standing on branches either side of two elaborate flowers, with two simple bunches of grapes. The back cover has a monogram in the centre, and the spine has only text and one simple leaf design at the top. The design is made up of lines of dots, possibly perforations, with dark rubbing markings in areas of the page which have been worked on. The photograph is pasted onto a page along with 7MMO/1/169. The object was held and photographed at the Bodleian Library, Oxford University. The photographs were taken during research by Elizabeth Masterman, for her book on May Morris. The text on the page reads ' 'Schubert Songs' / pounced design / with 'CH' monogram / {could CH = C s + JH / = St John Hornby?}'.
