Scope and Content

Black and white photograph of an unfinished design, possibly in pencil on paper [by May Morris]. The design is in two sections (front and back covers), with intertwined plant stems growing up the middle (the spine). The right hand side is more finished, with organic shapes of leaves and flower heads, to give an effect of random growth, surrounding a circular motif. The photograph is mounted on a page along with 7MMO/1/155.

The object was held and photographed at the Bodleian Library, Oxford University. The photographs were taken during research by Elizabeth Masterman, for her book on May Morris. The text on the page explains that the designs were 'taken out of the 2 large boxes of tracing etc at the Bodleian & 2 separate sheets (Winter & Buckle)'.
