Photocopy of letter. Written from [Winchester]. Thanks her for her letter of sympathy; the only help she could give would be if she knew of a very good children's nurse [there was also a baby boy of four months]. At the moment she is in 'such twilight and darkness of soul, just from being overtired'.

Christmas Day [1888] Date Christmas Day only but reference to the grandchild, little Josephine, ill with a spinal problems so that she has to be kept lying down, dates it 1888 see letter of 5 Dec 1888. 'I think Hannah Smith has gone abroad or I would have written to thank her for a most prophet like letter she wrote me full of comfort' [for the illness of little Josephine] Hannah Smith was a religious writer and speaker, an American who came over to England with her husband. Both were well known in the evangelical and revivalist movement so widespread at that period.
