Written from Winchester (dictated). Deals with the sad plight of Baxter Langley, who formerly did good work for them, and went wrong in connection with some building society frauds; he has had a hard struggle since. Perhaps a small subscription might be raised. Rhoda (Stanley's wife) and baby are doing capitally.

Administrative / Biographical History

'Baxter Langley did us good service.' In 1870 he was the candidate who opposed Sir Henry Storks at the Colchester election and by splitting the vote brought about the defeat of Storks. 'Rhoda and her baby are doing capitally.' The baby 'little Josephine' the first grandchild, was born at the Butlers home in Winchester, 23 Sep 1887 while JB and her husband were away in Switzerland.
