To say that Mrs Tanner, hearing of her trouble of bad sight [See Note] has written suggesting that the LNA should make her a grant for secretarial help. If this happened the Committee would like some assurance that it would be kept for purely abolitionist work (certain people are much afraid of my 'religious writings').
She encloses a copy of a letter from the Roman Catholic Primate of Ireland Archbishop of Logue. There was a time when the 'wholesale and hearty adhesion of all the Irish RC Bishops' would have been welcomed, but the feeling is so strong at the moment against Catholics that the Committee will not like to have this in 'The Shield'. Her brother knows and likes the Archbishop and they have similar schemes for aboriculture in Ireland.
About the suggested grant she will first find out whether the London Committee will offer a bit. Mr Stuart says he will come to see her some time: it would be better after Christmas.
