Dr Bucknell (sic)

This should be Dr Bushnell, the American lady who with her friend Mrs Andrews (mentioned later in the letter) had just come over to England to offer themselves for work connected with the LNA, and who finally went on the tour of investigation in the Indian cantonments. (See letter of 9 Mar 1891 for further details of the 2 ladies). For notes on Dr Kate Bushnell and her friend and co-worker Mrs Andrews see letters dated: 30 Mar 1893, 17 Apr 1893, 23 Apr 1893.

'if he [Prof Stuart] had been at the 'Star' Office when I called there'

Prof Stuart in his 'Reminiscences' says: 'For a number of years I was connected with newspapers being chairman of the Board of Directors of the 'Star' Newspaper co ... at one time I wrote the leading articles in the 'Star'.

('Reminiscences' by James Stuart 1912 p 252-4)
