Scope and Content

Makes suggestions about possible speakers for the LNA Annual Meeting, 12 & 13 Feb. Sends a list of people whose addresses she wants. Thinks Miss Eva Muller would be a good speaker for St. James' Hall (the public meeting on the second day;) 'we want some new lady speakers'. She would like Sir J. Pope Hennessey, but he has spoken so recently on this subject (see note).

Administrative / Biographical History

Tuesday [16 Jan 1883]. Date: Probably just after letter of 11 Jan [1883] as both deal with the same subject of getting speakers for the LNA meeting at Exeter Hall and St James' Hall on 12 & 13 Feb respectively. See Note on that meeting 12 & 13 Feb. Letter of 11 Jan. 'Should we ask Sir J. Pope Hennessey to speak? I fear he will think Exeter Hall enough.' Sir J. Pope Hennessey spoke at one of the public meetings of the Convention held by the Friends' Association 24 & 25 Jan 1883 at Exeter Hall. Hence JB's doubt as to whether he would want to speak so soon again on the same subject. 'Miss Humbert will write the letters for me to sign.' See letters of the 9th where she announces that Amelie Humbert is returning to her from Neuchâtel. She was called home for a time to look after her mother. Biog: Mrs Whiting; Mrs Harvey; Mrs Scatcherd; Mrs H Wigham; Mrs Ashford; Mrs Hinde Smith; Miss Matilda Sturge; Sir J Pope Hennessey; Miss Eva Muller.
