Scope and Content

Written from Liverpool. [Dictated letter]. Mr Stuart now acting with vigour as financial and English correspondent of the Federation. Cancellation of Pere Hyacinth's visit is a great disappointment for their Sheffield meeting; hopes the visit is only deferred. Does not think she can undertake to write a paper for the Conference; she is suffering from a return of the illness she had in Jun 1875; she will try to say a few words at each meeting.

Notes: 'Mr Stuart is now acting with vigour as financial and English correspondent.' At the inaugural meeting of the British & Continental Federation at Liverpool on 19 Mar 1875, Mrs Butler was appointed Hon. Sec. with Henry Wilson Co. Sec., pro. tem. On 31 Aug Prof Stuart consented to relieve Henry Wilson of this duty (with Mrs Butler) of Federation. 'Our Sheffield meetings' held 15-16 Nov 1875.
