'Voice in the Wilderness'
This pamphlet was published under the title 'Une voix dans le desert', Paris and Neuchatel, 1875 and consisted of addresses given in French on the Continent by JB during the previous winter. It was never published in English or in England but was translated first into German and Italian. It was edited by M Aime Humbert (Gen Sec of the Federation on the Continent).
In a letter from M Humbert to the English section of the Federation after commenting on the debate on the 2nd reading of Sir Harcourt Johnstone's Bill (23 Jun 1875) as it affected the British and Continental Federation, he goes on to say: 'The publication of this work [mentioned above] will be the trumpet call to the battle throughout Europe' (see 'Shield' 17 Jul 1875 p 228)
'Was it a satisfactory Conference?'
This refers to the Conference of 29 Jul for the members of the various Repeal Societies in England. See note in letter of 26 Jul JB to Mrs Tanner
