Correspondence and other papers relating to the Sadler’s Wells Ballet tours of 1940 to 1941. Other papers include financial records, notes relating to the administration of the tours, letter from Richard Clowes with ‘gossip paragraphs’ about the company’s escape from the Netherlands following the German invasion, details of fees due or paid. The papers relate to the Netherlands and Belgium tour in 1940, the Autumn 1940 tour (Manchester, Stratford, Newcastle, Blackpool), and the company’s temporary stay at Dartington Hall in Devon (including performances at theatres in the region).

The file contains correspondence received and sent by Rudolf Bing (who temporarily managed the company while at Dartington - folder 1), Tyrone Guthrie (folder 3) and George Chamberlain (folder 3).
