The Advisory Committee for Legal Education first met on 15 February 1906. Its function was to oversee the various academic arrangements for legal education at the University. Many law students were not full- time undergraduates but articled clerks undertaking part-time study at the University. Representatives of the local legal profession, including the Manchester Law Society, were members of the Committee as were staff of the Department of Law. Minutes of the committee prior to November 1932 are included with the records of Board of Faculty of Law. In 1973 the Committee was succeeded by the Joint Advisory Committee on Legal Training.
